The disappointment I feel today is beyond words . I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.
我今天感受到的失望之情难以言喻。满山满海的证据仍不足以对抗不成比例的力量、影响力，以及我前夫的操纵，对此我感到心碎不已。
【补充】
- beyond words (phr.) 难以言喻
表达同样意思的说法还有 beyond description ，
或是以 "words fail to express..." 的句型来带出令你难以言喻的事情为何。
【例句】
Words fail to express how heartbroken I was when I saw my "boyfriend" holding hands with the other woman.
当我看到我 "男友" 和其他女人牵手时，我的心碎程度可谓难以言喻。
- (a) mountain of (phr.) 大量
形容极为大量的某事物，例如办公桌上成堆的文书或是债务。
【例句】
I hate to see the mountain of paperwork on my desk that I have to deal with after long weekends.
我很讨厌在放长假之后看到桌上堆积成山的文件。
- disproportionate (adj.) 不成比例的
- sway (n.) 控制；影响
作为动词它表达的意思是摆动，像是搭船出游时，
船只随着海浪不断地晃动，就可以用 sway 动词的形式来描述。
不过在声明稿中的 sway 之意，其使用时机特别指透过言语、论证或行动等来对其他人造成直接影响或改变。
I'm even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.
更加让我失望的是，这个判决对于其他女性而言所代表的意义。这是一个挫折，将我们的时间倒转回女性公开发表意见会被公众羞辱及嘲笑的年代，也推翻了女性遭受暴力该被严谨以待的概念。
【补充】
这段有趣的地方在于先使用了名词 setback ，接着又使用动词短语 set back ，
两者之间虽然有词性上的差异，但想表达的意思差不多，
表达的都是阻止你有进展，或是导致你输了的这个事情。
- setback (n.) 挫折；障碍
【例句】
Losing a Michelin star is a great setback in his career as a chef.
丢了一颗米其林星星是他身为主厨职涯中的一大挫折。
- set sth back (phr.) 使...受挫；使...倒退
【例句】
Having a poor performance this year sets back his chance of getting a promotion.
今年表现不佳让他失去获得升迁的机会。
I believe Johnny's attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won on the UK.
我相信强尼的律师团队成功让陪审团忽视言论自由此一重要议题，也忽视了让我们在英国赢得审判的决定性证据。
【补充】
- ignore (v.) 忽视
此段中的 overlook 也是忽视的意思，不过 ignore 则更强调故意忽略，
而 overlook 则比较偏向因为把焦点放在其他地方而忽视。
【例句】
My boyfriend ignores my calls whenever he hangs out with his buddies.
我男友跟他哥儿们混在一起的时候都会忽略我的电话。
- conclusive (adj.) 决定性的
这个形容词经常和 evidence 或 proof 一起搭配使用，
强调某个证据可以证明某件事为真，或者是可屏除他人怀疑的事物。
【例句】
Mary discovered a conclusive message that proves Tom had ratted her out to the boss.
Mary 发现一则确凿的信息证明 Tom 把她出卖给老板。
I'm sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American - to speak freely and openly.
输了这起案子让我很难过，但我更难过的是，我失去了我先前以为身为一位美国人就拥有的权利——自由且公开地发声。

I am losing weight. 减重
I lost the key to my apartment. 我把公寓的钥匙搞丢了
关于 lose 这个动词，比较有趣的用法会是：

The clock on the wall loses three minutes ever since its battery was last changed.
自从上次换完电池之后，墙上的时钟就变慢三分钟。
没错，我们常说的时钟 / 手表慢几分钟也可以用 lose 来表示！
