【用英语怎么说】去海边不是 go to the sea！停止你的中式英语，学习母语者的用法

因为语言的惯性，
经常会造成我们在学习外语的时候使用母语的思维，
也就出现所谓 "中式英语" 这样的说法。
今天 Engoo 带你看看这七条中式英语母语者会怎么说，

go to the sea -> go to the beach 去海边玩
夏天又要到了，你今夏准备去海边玩吗？
如果你也居住在沿海城市，
你一定经常可以听到亲朋好友说 "去海边走走" 。
"去海边走走" 的英语，你下意识会怎么翻译？
你会直接说 "go to the sea" 吗？
但我们应该要说 "go to the beach" 才对，
go to the beach 才是更正确、更地道的 "去海边玩" 的英语。
go to the sea 这个说法在美式英语比较少见，
并且比较不是大家想像去海边玩这种用法，
它带有长时间在海里的意思，
像是水手乘船出海比较符合 go to the sea 的情境。
【例句】
Last weekend, my boyfriend and I went to the beach and watched the sunrise.
上个周末，我和男友去海边看日出。
go to bed early and get up early -> keep early hours 早睡早起
其实如果要说，
早睡早起翻译为 go to bed early and get up early 并没有错，
只是一般母语者并不会这样讲，
早睡早起他们更习惯说 "keep early hours" 。
【例句】
Keeping early hours is good for your health.
早睡早起对你的健康有益。
History repeats. -> History repeats itself. 历史总是不断重演。
为什么是 "History repeats itself." ，而不是 "History repeats." ？
这就要从单词的属性说起，repeat 是及物动词 (vt.)，
也就是说后面一定要接谓语，没办法独立存在，
所以 "历史总是不断重演" 一定是 "History repeats itself." ，
而不是 "History repeats."

thick tea -> strong tea 浓茶
茶有浓淡之分，你是喜欢浓茶还是淡一点的茶？
淡茶的英语是 "light tea" ，
而浓茶的英语大家时常误会为 "thick tea" ，
实际上浓茶是 "strong tea" 喔！
【例句】
I shouldn't drink too much strong tea, or I'll have trouble falling asleep tonight.
我不应该喝太多浓茶，不然今晚会睡不着。
struck by thunder -> struck by lightning 被闪电击中
中文里，我们会说 "被雷劈" ，
所以常有人以为被闪电击中的英语是 "struck by thunder"
但英语里，实际上是说 "struck by lightning" 被闪电击中。
【例句】
There are so many articles on the internet to teach you how to prevent getting struck by lightning.
网上有很多文章教你怎么避免被闪电击中。
take a driver license -> get a driver license 考取驾照
或许是因为参加考试的英语我们会说 "take the exam" ，
很多人以为考驾照也是同理 "take a driver license" 。
但实际上考驾照的英语是 "get a driver license" 喔！
【例句】
Are foreigners allowed to get a driver license in our country?
外国人可以在我们国家取得驾照吗？
stop on power line -> sit on power line 停在电线上
power line 是电线，会停在电线上的生物就是鸟了，
因为中文说 "停" 在电线上，
导致有些人以为它的英语是 "stop on power line" ，
但在英语，我们说的是 "sit on power line" 。
【例句】
She is studying why birds sit on high-voltage power lines without getting electrocuted.
她正在研究为什么鸟类可以坐在高压电线上而不触电。
