在航海时代，船只上都配有武器，
cannon 就是船上的大炮。
为了避免开火时失控，多半会用绳子将其固定，
而 loose cannon 就是没有被固定的大炮，
引申为失控的人、脱缰野马、不定时炸弹。

After divorcing Gina, he was regarded as a loose cannon by his friends.
自从和 Gina 离婚后，他朋友都认为他变成脱缰野马，非常失控。
She's a loose cannon who might do more damage to our team.
她是一个不受控的人，可能会对我们团队造成伤害。
scuttlebutt 谣言、闲言闲语
scuttlebutt 原本是用于储水的木桶，
但因为航海时，大家都会聚集在那里聊八卦，
所以 scuttlebutt 就引申为谣言、八卦，
是个非正式的用法。
