短语 (phrase) 是什么？它是词与词连在一起具有其他意思的字群。
它就像是语言里的习惯用法，有些不一定是依照语法，
当然很多也不能看字面上的意思直接判读。
例如， "make me !" 语法上来看只有动词和宾语却没有主语；
字面上来看的意思是 "做我自己"
但正确答案是 "咬我啊!"
通常是两人在发生冲突或吵架时会说的话，就像是 "有本事就冲着我来啊!" 的意思。
短语的种类很多，有名词短语、形容词短语、动词短语、不定词短语、介词短语等等，
而上面的 "make me !" 就是动词短语的一种。

【例句】
The farmer is busy working day in and day out.
这位农夫每天不停地耕田。
Around the clock = 不眠不休 / 24小时
【例句】
Emily works around the clock when she takes over a big project.
当艾米莉接下一个重大的项目时，她会不眠不休的工作。
The hotel's service is great, there is always someone available to help you around the clock.
这个饭店的服务棒极了，如果你有需要他们都有 24 小时工作的服务人员。
Take one’s time = 慢慢来
【例句】
Take your time, we are not in a rush.
你慢慢来，我们不急。

如果要请某人加快速度，大部分都会说 do not take your own sweet time.
警告某人时间没有那么多让他慢慢来。

【例句】

Behind time = 迟到 / 没有在规定的期限或时间之内

The train is 30 minutes behind time.
这班火车误点 30 分钟了。
I am already behind time so I can't help you now.
我已经迟到了所以我现在不能帮你。
*注意不要把 behind the times 和 behind time 搞混了

I would let myself eat fast food from time to time when I am not in the mood for being responsible for my own health.

Take time out = 抽空
【例句】
Parents need to take time out to educate their children about the birds and the bees, especially when the school doesn't.
父母应该要抽空教孩子有关性教育，尤其是如果学校没有负责这一块。

- Take some time out = 抽空
- Take more time out = 抽出更多时间
One’s days are numbered = 某人的日子不多了
【例句】
Grandpa knows his days are numbered due to old age, so he tries to spend time with his family.
爷爷知道自己因为年龄大了日子不多了，所以他尽量花时间和家人相处。

numbered 有着编号的意思 / 有限的
Better late than never = 晚一些总比没有好
【例句】
I'm so sorry for my delayed wishes but better late than never.
我为我晚来的祝福感到抱歉，但晚一些总比没有好。
Just in time / In the nick of time = 准时 / 在关键时刻
【例句】
She thought her husband was going to miss the birth of their first baby, but he arrived just in time.
她以为她的老公会错过他们第一胎的生育，但他准时赶到了。
Call it a day / night = 先停止手边的事 / 活动，隔天再继续
【例句】
You've worked really hard on this case, I think it's time to call it a night. I'll see you tomorrow.

Dwell on the past = 对过去念念不忘 / 放不下过去
【例句】
Stop dwelling on the past and move on!
不要再对过去念念不忘了，继续向前看吧！
Do time = 服徒刑
【例句】
He already did his time so stop judging him.
他已经受到他该有的处罚了, 所以不要再用异样的眼光看他。

也可以用 serve time
Eleventh hour = 最后一刻 / 一秒
【例句】
The water bomber arrived at the eleventh hour, just in time to prevent the forest fire from engulfing the town.
多亏灭火飞机最后一刻的到来，防止了这场森林火灾吞没小镇。
